It’ll be an all-ACC matchup in Sunday’s NCAA championship game as Boston College is set to take on Syracuse in the final. It’ll be the first national final between two teams from the same conference since 2014 when Maryland faced Syracuse.
Syracuse downed previously undefeated, #2-seed Northwestern 21-13 in the late semifinal on Friday to punch their ticket to the final. 21 goals was a season high for Syracuse, with Meaghan Tyrrell pacing the Orange with 5 goals and 8 points. Asa Goldstock, Syracuse’s goalie, had a big day of her own on a day where Rachel Hall made major headlines, making 10 stops.
BC and Syracuse are very familiar with one another as conference foes, but this will be the highest-profile matchup between the two schools.
The Orange handed BC two of their three losses this season, blitzing BC 16-7 in the regular season finale on April 24, before outlasting the Eagles 19-17 in a wild ACC tournament semifinal that saw BC make a huge comeback after digging an early hole. Syracuse went on to lose the ACC final 9-4 to North Carolina.
BC won the first matchup of the year between the two teams, beating Syracuse 14-13 at the Carrier Dome on April 22.
BC and Syracuse previously clashed in another epic ACC semifinal in 2019, with BC completing a huge comeback at Alumni Stadium to beat the Orange 14-13.
As has been documented many times, this game will feature BC’s push to end a streak of three straight losses in the NCAA final. To do that, they’ll have to overcome a stout conference foe.
The final will take place on Sunday, May 30, at 12 PM ET, and will be televised live on ESPNU. The game takes place at Towson University’s Johnny Unitas Stadium, in Towson, MD.
